'Heimweh, Nostalgia.

Nostalgia is often a presence in many fields of art, from Tarkovsky's feature filme of the same title, to Charles Mingus' Nostalgia in times Square.
In this instance, I think that blues, the music of afro-american people, would be the most fitting reference. Here you will not find neither the usual 12 bars nor the typical chords built on Irst, Ivth or Vth grade, but rather the profound significance of the blues, meant as an often troubled and painful autobiographical memory [...]
These musicians are lastingly immersed in a counterpoint from which they rise from time to time carrying a different role; the main actor is not necessarily the reed - which traditionally is the most common narrator. Instead, every instrument is banded to have a starring role and sooner or later to be silent, or quietly sustain the musical path of the group.
All this is made by means of improvisation.
I don't think it is a value itself: improvisation is just a technique.
In this case, it's a technique at the service of great music.'
